The next day the school closed for President Roosevelt’s funeral. Danny called Reuven and asked him to come over and visit. Reuven was going to but he came home from school with a fever, the doctor called it the flu. He missed 10 days of school so he had to drop all of his extracurricular activities for the next 2 weeks to catch up on his school work. In May the war in Europe was over.

While Reuven was in a student council meeting someone burst in and told everyone that President Roosevelt was dead. Everyone was astonished. Reuven couldn’t believe it, this was like God dying. Everyone on the trolley ride home was sad. Reuven’s father’s eyes were red. They listened to the radio during dinner, something unusual, to here all of the news. Later that week Reuven called Danny again to see if he could visit but Danny was still sick.

When Reuven finally talked to Danny, he said that his brother was sick again and was in the hospital. The next time they talked his brother was all right and on a new medicine. Danny said he wanted to talk to Reuven about somthing. Reuven wanted to know if it was important Danny said that it wasn't that important and that it could wait. Reuven had his midterm exams. Danny caught the flu the  end of March. Reuven asked Danny's mom if he could come and visit Danny. She said he couldn't because Danny was too sick.

Reuven went to Danny's house one night in the middle of the week. Danny said that he had only been able to read a little Freud, it had become very upsetting . Battle of the Bulge happens in the middle of December, thousands of casualties. Reuven didn't see Danny once between the middle of December and the middle of January.

When Reuven returned he called Danny, Danny was happy that Reuven was back. The next day they met at the library. Danny had read the books given to him by Reuven plus he was reading another paper by Freud, On Shabbat school again. This was the reall year of a person going to school. For the first months of school Reuven and Danny were able to get together on Shabbat mornings. Theyalso talked frequently by phone but they never got around to talking about Freud's writings.
