Home Sweet Home

The Bell Jar         2-3

After she visits her ex-boyfriend, and goes back to the hotel, the time that she was spending at the hotel has now run out. She decides to go to another party with Doreen and pairs up with her cousin. At the party, she's eating and dancing with the guy. She goes to find Doreen but can't find her anywhere at the party. While looking outside, Doreen's cousin started beating her and saying all this crazy stuff. He threw her on the ground, in the mud. She was afraid that he was going to rape her, but he didn't. She asked what he wanted and he told her that he was in love with his cousin and thats all he wanted. He finally let her go home and she left in a hurry. Her clothes were ripped and torn and she had to walk through the party to get to the parking lot.

When she got to the hotel, she took all of her clothes, while packing to go home the next day, up to the roof of the building and let them all fly in the wind wondering where they would land in the city.

She goes home and finds that the college she applied for didn't accept her. With no plans for her future anymore, she turns crazy. Suddenly she think its silly to shower or change clothes, not that she has any anymore, she doesn't do any of that for three weeks straight and doesn't sleep also. Her sister comes to help her out because she's a doctor. Before she perscribed her strong sleeping pills to help her sleep but they don't help. Now she gives her a number to a phsyciatrist.

She goes and thinks that the doctor is completely stupid and can't help her. This book is really getting wierd. I thought it was wierd before but it was nothing cmpared to now.

To Much To Understand

The Bell Jar                          2-2

Esther goes on the date with this new guy and finds that she wants to sleep with him. She tries to get him to notice her more. They go to his home and soon she acts like she's tired after he tells her of some past relationships. She goes into his room and lays in the bed. He doesn't come in for the time that she's awake and then in the middle of the  night she wakes up to hear his breathing. She  wonders what it would be like to be married. He wakes up and they talk a little then she goes home.

It kinda jumps to a different thing now.

She's goes to visit the man she fell in love with before at this special institute for people with TB. While she's there, Buddy, asked her to marry him. This is the man she think's is the hypocrite. She is completely convinced that this man is not a very good one at all anymore. He tells her he loves her so much and that he will get better within a couple months but she still rejects him.

This book is really sad in a way because of the lostness that the characters feel.  I don't lke reading books like this.

Flashback

The Bell Jar                 2-1

Esther is still lying in bed thinking about how she once fell in love with a man and how he turned out to be a complete hypocrite. She goes back into memories she has pushed from her mind. She goes back to college and first Junior prom in college wiht her first love. All of this memory started because she doesn't want to get her hopes up with falling in love with this man who she thinks her editor set her up with in the first place.

This book is kind of confusing with all the flashback memories and stuff. One minute she's sick and if you don't pay close attention, the next minute she back in college and your totally lost. I think that the over all story might be worth reading at some point. I hope that this story gets a little bit happier though, I really like happy endings.

Poisoned!

The Bell Jar

In my last entry, I mentioned that she went to a party. I forgot to enter that at the party, she ate a ton of Caviar and Avacodo peels stuffed with crab meat and junk.

After that, Besty, Esther, and two other women go to watch a movie. During the movie, she becomes ill and tells Betsy that she is leaving. Betsy go with her. They take a cab, in the cab both frequetly throw-up. When they go to the hotel, both run to their bathrooms(in the hotel, the bathrooms aren't in each room but at the end of each hall.

Later, they are found by a doctor and taken to a special room where all the rest of the girls who went to the party are also. There were eleven girls who were supposed to be there but because Doreen didn't go to the party, she was taking care of the girls instead. What got the girls sick in the first place was eating the crab meat. It was poisoned. All the girls are lucky that they didn't die.

The party they went to was to introduce a new restaraunt to the girls because they are all journalists and they wanted good publicity, but they ended up poisoning their guests instead.

This book is really weird but I think that I may be getting into it.

This book is crazy!

The Bell Jar

The girls go to this bar with the two men they met in the cab. The two men are named Lenny Shepherd and Frankie. Doreen was paired with Lenny and Esther, who told them her name was Elly instead of her real one, was with Frankie who several inches shorter than her. He ended up leaving the bar early. Doreen, Lenny, and Esther left alittle while later and went to Lenny's house. There Lenny And Doreen forgot about Elly, and did who knows what. Esther layed on the ground most of the time feeling like she was shrinking into nothing. Well, in a way she was, she was drinking herself away.

At one point she awoke to hear her friend Doreen screaming. Turns out that she had bit Lenny's ear and that he got mad then threw her over his shoulder and then they both started laughing. At this point Elly left and went back to their hotel. She went and took a long hot bath thinking that it was making her pure again. Then she went to sleep.

Later that night, she heard a soft knocking in her door, she tried to ignore it, then came  a harder rapping on the door and an impatient voice calling her. She moved to the door taking her time and found that Doreen was there as was the Laundry lady. The lady left after she had answered.

Esther looked at doreen who was soon vomiting in the floor. Slowly Doreen sunk lower and lower to the ground lying in her own vomit. Esther just left her lying there in the hall. She went back to sleep and woke the next morning to find the hall deserted and clean from vomit.

Later that day she was scheduled for lunch and decided not to hang around Doreen anymore because of the bad influence.  During lunch however, she missed her snide comments about other peolpe that used to cheer her up. She was now friends with a young girl named Betsy, who is a very smart and proper girl.

This story, I hope, gets better.

The First 30 minutes/whatever I read

The Bell Jar

The first thing I thought while reading the first couple of pages of the book is " Great, another  book about someone who has everything they could ever ask for and they act like it doesn't mean anything.

This girl named Esther Greenwood. She grew up with  no money and recently won a journalist prize that landed her into a huge hotel that only let in women. She had money, food, clothes, everything anyone could ever want. Her best friend was named Doreen who in my opinion is a waste of time and completely superficial.

Doreen and Esther  are on their way to a party when two men approach  their cab. Doreen is quite taken with one to the point that she can't talk. The one who first spoke to them invited them to hang with them instead of going to this Fashion party they were scheduled to go to. They agree, the stupid girls.

I think that those two women are really dumb. Here they are with everything handed straight to them dilivered directly to thier hands and their throwing a lifetime of what they have worked for away just to go get wasted. I'm sorry but this book is making me kinda mad.

On February 11, 1963, she ended her life, after reading the reviews she had recieved from The Bell Jar. Her last poem said this;

"How did i know that someday- at college, in Europe, soomewhere, anywhere- the Bell Jar, with its stifling distrortions, wouldn't descend again?
